ABSTRACT

Rightsourcing is a business strategy that looks into the appropriate balance between the activities that take place internally and externally in an enterprise. An enterprise may insource activities that were formerly performed outside or outsource activities that are generally considered internal. This article defines these concepts, discusses their pros and cons, and offers a methodology to perform rightsourcing. It also discusses the effects of outsourcing on human resources. It includes an analysis of interpretations given to insourcing and outsourcing as privatization or nationalization. Even though rightsourcing is a tool for obtaining and maintaining competitive advantage, it can also be applied to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of public enterprises. This paper discusses rightsourcing in public and private contexts and uses examples from the Central Bank of Venezuela.
